Mayor Rogero speaks at the groundbreaking of new tennis center

 The City of Knoxville and Greater Knoxville Tennis Association will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for West Hills Tennis Center Wednesday, February 8, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. Mayor Madeline Rogero will lead the groundbreaking ceremony for the new West Hills Tennis Center.

The location is at West Hills Park, 410 N Winston Rd. a 1,400-square-foot facility will serve as a clubhouse and feature both interior and exterior public restrooms. City Council voted to enter a contract for the $370,000 project on January 24, 2012. The City contributed $220,000 and the Greater Knoxville Tennis Association gave $150,000 to build the tennis facility. This marks Phase II of a long-term plan to renovate the West Hills tennis courts.

Davidson County Spelling Bee

WHAT: Metro Schools’ Language Arts department will host the Davidson County Spelling Bee. Seventh and eighth graders from area public and private schools will participate in the spelling bee. Also participating will be Metro-Kathryn Mitchell Spelling Bee winner and runner-up.

WHEN: Tuesday, Feb. 7, at 9:30 a.m.
