Child injured after playing with loaded revolver in Morristown

 MORRISTOWN, Tenn. — On Monday January 23, 2012 at 7:49 PM, officers of the Morristown Police Department and members of Morristown Hamblen Emergency Medical Service were dispatched to 1126 Walnut Ave., in Morristown, TN on a shooting.

Upon the initial officers arrival at the scene, they discovered that a seven year old boy had been shot.

According to the initial investigation, the seven year old, his four year old brother, and his thirteen year old brother were in the bedroom, and were playing with a small .22 caliber revolver. As they were playing with the revolver, it was discharged, and struck the seven year old boy.

The seven year old boy was transported to UT Medical center via Lifestar for life threatening injuries. At this time, the severity of the boy’s injuries is unknown.

Investigators and crime scene technicians of the Morristown Police Department did arrive at the scene to start the preliminary investigation. At this time, investigators are still conducting their investigation, but preliminary investigations indicate that it was an accidental shooting. Det. Lt. Christian Newman is leading the investigation.
