DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH NAMES ASSISTANT COMMISSIONER FOR LEGISLATIVE AFFAIRS


NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Valerie Nagoshiner has been appointed assistant commissioner for legislative affairs for the Tennessee Department of Health. In this role, Nagoshiner will direct and oversee the department’s legislative efforts and initiatives. She will also coordinate with and assist legislators in public health-related issues and departmental legislative proposals.

 

“Valerie brings extensive business and public policy experience to her role as assistant commissioner,” said Health Commissioner John Dreyzehner, MD, MPH. “I look forward to working with her in guiding our legislative projects.”

 

Nagoshiner comes to this position after serving as member support manager for the National Federation of Independent Business where she led grassroots activities in four states in the organization’s South region. At NFIB, she also developed and supported area action councils and member meetings to provide networking and educational opportunities, and coordinated special events to increase membership. Nagoshiner’s experience also includes serving as marketing director for a private medical practice, where she developed and coordinated activities to increase the business’s market share.

 

“I am thrilled with the opportunity to work in the Department of Health, and look forward to advocating and promoting healthy living across the State of Tennessee,” said Nagoshiner.

 

Nagoshiner also has prior experience in Tennessee state government, having served as legislative liaison for the Department of Economic and Community Development. In that position, she coordinated departmental initiatives and special projects for executive staff members and the Governor’s Office, and guided administration initiatives through the Tennessee General Assembly.

 

Nagoshiner holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Belmont University in Nashville, and earned her Bachelor of Business Administration degree at Lambuth University in Jackson. Her community involvement includes service with the Junior League of Nashville and Miriam’s Promise.
