News stories coverage influenced by race discussed at UT

Knoxville, TN — A vibrant group of over 80 students and faculty of the UT College of Communications & Information welcomed a discussion panel titled: “Communicating News and Information in a Diverse Society”.
As part of the many events celebrating diversity and inclusion as grounds for a better world Georgiana Vines, School of Journalism & Electronic Media and former Knoxville News Sentinel Columnist served as a moderator for the panel that included Jamie Foster, News Director of WATE-TV Channel 6, Jesse Fox Mayshark, Managing Editor at Metro Pulse; Carlos Nicho, President of Mundo Hispano Bilingual Newspaper and Jamie Satterfield, Reporter for Knoxville News Sentinel that took place on Wednesday Sept. 29 at the Scripps Convergence Lab.
The struggles experienced by a woman in a dominant male journalistic field and the influence of race in the intensity of efforts to cover a story where some of the topics that caught the interest of the large audience.
